- GC> Hello all,
-
- high garth
-
- GC> I have recently tried to upgrade my A3000 with and A3640 board and
- GC> have run into the following problem. Any help with this will be
- GC> greatly appreciated.
-
- i`ll try...
-
- GC> After surgery:
- GC> A3000 16M/2M (All Static Column)
- what`s the access time of your dram?
-
- GC> Softkicked 2.04
- if i understood your message you already installed your 2.04/3.1 roms.
-
-
- GC> Seagate 2.2GB
- GC> Retina ZIII
- GC> A4066 Ethernet
- GC> Ramsey -07
- GC> DMAC -04
- cool. where did you get dmac and ramsey?
-
- GC> SBuster -11
- GC> WD SCSI -08
-
- wd scsi 08 is somewhat more crucial to wrong termination than the 04 revision.
- your seagate drive is mounted internally? than it must be terminated. on the
- other side of the chain rp 802, 803 and 804 or (that`s an XOR) an external
- terminator on the db25 connector had to be installed.

- GC> I crossed my fingers and powered up. The machine whirred back to life
- GC> and everything seemed fine. Shortly after booting, during normal use,
- GC> I recieved a single "checksum error" message on my WB_2.x partition.
- GC> All else seemed fine save this one error. This machine spends most of
- GC> its life running NetBSD so I loaded it to see if everything worked.
- GC> Again, no problems. I ran this machine for several more days both in
- GC> and out of NetBSD and it ran flawlessly.
-
- GC> Now I finally decided that it was time to install the A3640. Once
- GC> again I cracked the case. I changed the appropriate jumpers,
- GC> installed the board and put everything back together. This time when
- GC> I booted, however, things we not fine. I had not one, but dozens of
- GC> checksum errors on everypartition (ever ones not mounted by Amiga OS).
- GC> Finally after much trying, the system became unusable. I couldn't do
- GC> anything without bazillions of these errors. I booted from floppy and
- GC> everything ran fine. Sysinfo even told me I had a 68040 processor.
-
- whats your a3640 board revision? you can determine it by checking out the
- label of the u209 gal chip.
-
- u209 label a3640 revision rating
- -01 3.0 won`t work in an a3000. you`ll need an update
- of the u209 chip
- -02 3.1 ok, but has problems with zorro2 dma boards.
- -03 3.2 excellent.
-
-
-
- now check jumpers on the a3k motherboard.
-
- J100: 3-4
- J102: 2-3
- J103: 1-2
- J104: 2-3
-
- The '1'-Position is where the printed arrow head is.
-
-
-
- is the first command of your s:startup-sequence setpatch? is your setpatch
- version 40.16, is the 68040.library in libs: installed? is 68040.library
- version 37.30?
-
- now check with hdtoolbox: is your mask parameter set to 0xfffffffc (seven
- times f and one c) and your maxtransfer 0xffffff (six times f)
-
-
- GC> Many many many thanks in advance,
-
- GC> Garth.
-
- let me know if your are still in trouble.
